Minnesota Passive House Builder

Building smarter, healthier homes—far beyond code.

As a Minnesota Passive House builder, we specialize in high-performance homes designed to use dramatically less energy, deliver exceptional indoor air quality, and provide year-round comfort, even in our harsh northern climate. Passive House is more than a certification—it’s a philosophy of building that puts people, performance, and the planet first.

What is a Passive House?

certified Passive House (or Passivhaus, in its German origin) is the gold standard for energy-efficient building. It’s not a style—it’s a rigorous, science-based approach that focuses on five core principles:

    1. Continuous insulation with minimal thermal bridging.
    2. Airtight construction that prevents drafts and heat loss.
    3. High-performance windows and doors strategically placed for solar gain.
    4. Balanced ventilation with heat recovery, delivering fresh air without energy waste.
    5. Optimized solar orientation and shading for maximum comfort year-round.

These homes consume up to 90% less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings and often outperform newly built “energy-efficient” homes.

A lot of people have heard stories about failed projects, or unfortunately, experienced shoddy workmanship. For us, it is a must to pay attention to the details and get it right. We take pride in our work and build each home as if it were our own. We wanted to build a company with a solid reputation that would sustain over time. We carry pride, integrity, and an expectation that our homes will sustain for likely well over a hundred years. We continue to raise our game to another level. I once heard a saying that the “building code standard is the minimum bar that they will allow you to build”. To me, this resonated even more with us. We see building code as a minimum performance bar. For us, our baseline standard is an ENERGY STAR-certified home.

Why Build a Passive House in Minnesota?

Our climate poses extreme challenges. Sweltering summers and bitter winters demand homes that can handle both with minimal energy input. Passive House design is uniquely suited for Minnesota:

  • Keeps your home cozy in winter and cool in summer with minimal HVAC usage
  • Prevents moisture issues, mold, and temperature swings common in older homes
  • Delivers consistent indoor comfort with no hot or cold rooms
  • Reduces dependence on fossil fuels and helps future-proof your home

With the rising cost of energy and growing concern about carbon footprints, Passive House offers both sustainability and economic resilience for Minnesota families.

Healthier Living, Backed by Building Science

Because Passive Houses are so well-sealed and ventilated, they also promote exceptional indoor air quality, removing allergens, pollutants, and humidity from your home. That means fewer irritants, better sleep, and a healthier environment for your whole family. It’s a better way to build, rooted in real-world science.
